Starting January 1, 2026, the Cape Coral City Council will implement new rules regarding rental properties in the city with a change to the fee frequency and cost.
- All rental properties must still be registered.
- Long-term rentals (rented for more than six months) must register every year for $35.
- Short-term rentals (rented for less than six months) must register every year for $350.

If you do not register your properties, you are subject to fines: |
- First Violation: $1,000
- Second Violation: $2,000.
- If you violate the registration ordinance more than twice in a 36-month period, you will be fined an additional $2,000.
- Late fees will be charged if you fail to re-register within 30 days of your initial registration.
